It is very strange.

But what is REALLY strange is the willingness the young people in this country have to give up basic rights without even questioning it.

They don't seem to grasp the significance of it. But when I was in my late twenties, I can recall thinking it would be a good idea to have our city outlaw cigarette smoking as I didn't want my kids to grow up as smokers.

Of course, today, I realize that while the public would be better served if there were no cigarettes, the right of the people to do what the hell they please is more important. You just don't fork over the right to not wear a helment or seatbelt; to smoke if you choose to; to drink big cokes; or whatever. Because when you do give up those rights, you have no credibility on any other similar issue.

This is also why conservatives must back off of the opposition to gay marriage. Why conservatives must give up telling other people what to do -- whether it is smoking pot or smoking cigarettes.

It is none of the federal government's fucking business. If you allow them an inch they'll take a mile.

Liberals and conservatives are both hypocrites on these issues; they want to control what people do -- unless those people do the things they like. This isn't freedom. This is just party politics.

Good. Because it wouldn't happen. You do realize that, right?
