Verizon cant be happy. They are doing everything they can to promote their LTE handsets and the 4/4S grab 1/3 of their smartphone business. Management made a point to talk about increasing competition among the ecosystems driving down subsidies in the future.

The question is whether these results are reflective of demand at other operators. The few operators that publish sales rankings all showed the various 5 models outselling the 4/4S, but these are from places like Japan, Finland, and Sweden so they may not be reflective of global demand either. Personally though, I can live with the reduced ASP's if it drives the kind of share gain that we saw at Verizon. Those 4/4S buyers are very likely to be upgraders in future years.

"Huge number from Verizon. 6.2 million, but less than half were the 5."

I would not have expected that, even though it was the obvious explanation for the numbers we were seeing. Guess we should expect a hit on ASP going forward.

This is getting interesting indeed...it was posited on this board as a possible explanation for what we've been seeing...and it is consistent with the general lack of advancement in iOS (new software drives new hardware)...

Perhaps a hit on ASP. However, a mix of iPhones that includes more of the older models would be positive for margins.
