I am talking about 24-29yr olds. And this is in US - no one pays that sort of money.

The US is the last reason why Apple might release a cheaper iPhone. They have very little need for such a handset in the US. Their share at VZ is north of 60% and likely near 80% at AT&T.

It is the rest of the world, and particularly the developing world, that is the issue.
