should all cars immediately be switched to high-end (and there shall always be a high-end) electric cars using fuel cells cleancaroptions.com (as opposed to the mousy battery powered carts traveling nowhere slow) we would have no platinum to use for anything else but fuel cell parts here is the true good news - thin market - concentrated and devolving source (s.africa) - lots of new and price-insenitive uses + jewelry it turns out that cars using platinum as opposed to palladium are loaded w/ 2-15g (small car-big truck) of pt fuel cell tech for electric cars (no big trucks yet) are loaded w/ 15-20g of pt per car. we must like the math even if tech should evolve such that loading drops to theoretical low of 5g to car. hydrogen fuel cell economy and pgm go well together people.duke.edu in the case of world going to electric cars w/o fuel cells but depending on batteries, am thinking about where all the electricity would come from - maybe it shall turn out that cold fusion is actually possible, and if so ... recommend pgm as cold fusion use of pgm would be quite insensitive to pricing of platinum, iow, the sky is the limit we must encourage initiatives to mine for platinum in outer space bbc.co.uk as such output would pace the eventual cost of platinum that would be "plenty of platinum but at astronomical cost" making any private stash resting at 9995-9999 purity worth a bit of walk-around coins.
