Personally, I would rather hear a well reasoned critique to my idea than cheerleading or congrats. Like Charlie Munger said, always invert. Me-too support, unless grounded and providing additional info is pretty worthless in investing. It's important to know what things you missed in your analysis, not that it's elegant, great, and fantastically written.

For real investor, the results are in the pudding of investing into the idea and reaping the rewards. The comments on the boards may be useful or not, but they are not main reward.

BTW, you are wrong to equate critique with insults.

Of course, there are people who don't like to hear negative opinions because they get better results when they don't hear them (see Shane M on Fundamental Value Investing board). Unfortunately, the only advice for such people is not to participate. I haven't seen a single idea that was unanimously approved anywhere on SI or any other forum.

I will admit that I am guilty, but guilty of not critiquing ideas of other people. Most of the time I stop myself by thinking "this person is invested in this idea, he will hate when I say negative things about it, he will argue with me, both of us will be unhappy, I won't invest in this idea anyway, so what's the point in conflict". However, it's quite likely that the author would get more benefit from my critique than from my silence. :/

Bocor, I appreciate the comments. in my opinion, the worst thing that can happen (and has happened) is that my idea is met with dead silence. I'd much rather have a well reasoned critique, than dead silence.
I admit of coming across a bit harsh at times; it is probably due to growing up in Germany. Where I am coming from, we call things the way we see it and don't bother too much playing nice. We debate pretty much anything, politics, religion and can agree to disagree and still remain on good terms. So, if I offended someone with my posts, this is my excuse :-).

I agree totally, why should I continue to provide information to a group so critical of anyones ideas. Too each their own, but I will no longer be bringing any of my purchases or picks to this board. Why should I bother when everything brought up is deemed not viable. I will continue to go about my research and only provide information to those that request it by writing to my private mail. I hope that everyone that has bought some of my recommendations and has profited uses some of the profits for further education of kids or grandkids. The best investment anyone can make in our country's future. PS. My account is up over thirty percent from January 1st.

we all put ourselves out there when we post a position

When we buy a position, that's when we really put ourselves out there. My attitude towards criticism of my investment ideas is a paraphrase of Roger De Bris:

Be cruel. Be brutal. Be brutal. Because heaven knows the markets will.
