Well if that's true, why do the police carry weapons in urban areas? Can you explain that? Do the police ignore statistics? I'm very very skeptical of this study.

Aha, he's mixing up two things ... "gun possession" (legal or otherwise) and gun carrying under a carry permit.

"Gun possession" would include gang members being shot by others gang members, robbers being shot by home owners or business people during robberies ... etc. These kind of folks would be considered gun possessors who weren't protected from assault by their gun possession.
