but I was pleasantly surprised by his tone about returning cash to shareholders.

Based on nothing more than trying to read between the lines, his comments made me think that there is actually a possibility of Apple getting creative about returning cash to shareholders.

Why else have the poster child for overseas cash in the box?

I think it could also be to highlight how some companies are bringing back manufacturing.

My take on this whole in the box thing without being political is that it is pretty impressive that Cook was given the honor of having a seat with our First Lady.

Did like the idea Slacker brought up about being a major employer and bring manufacturing back to the US.

Whatever the reason I think the most important issue for me as a share holder in Apple is whether the company continues to generate large piles of cash on a monthly basis.

All the rest of the stuff is nonsense for the talking heads to generate ratings for their shows.

I want a CEO that has a very long term objective in mind not the short term get me rich now motivation of some people claiming to have share holder interests in mind.

I'm now going to get away from the keyboard and celebrate my dear friend Allen for awhile.

By the way, I hope you are right about the tax holiday but...
I doubt the President would use the State of the Union to make that announcement.
He might be for doing so but I would think he'd be cautious about the left's reaction.
So, my bet is that he wants to point to Apple as a company that invested heavily overseas but
is now bringing back some of its overseas jobs to America.
That is right down the middle for both sides of the aisle.
I don't see this exchange as a political post as much as a commentary on how Apple fits into the political world and the American economy.
Whichever one of our theories is right, and one of them probably will be correct, it also means the political issue(s) in this case will provide great visibility for the company at a time when appearing pro- America for jobs may have a "halo" effect on our products in the retail store.
