2/22/13 Contest Update
It’s Oscar time and stocks obliged by finishing the week with a happy ending. Still, although the Nasdaq Biotech Index managed a tiny gain and the Dow closed above 14,000, this week’s Wall Street action was definitely not a best performance nominee.
At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 8.06% YTD (vs. up 9.33% YTD a week ago). The Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 6.48% (vs. up 6.24% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Composite Index finished the week up 4.71% YTD (vs. up 5.71% YTD a week ago).
FILO’s portfolio, up 26.37% YTD, held on to the Contest lead, with MOPGCW’s portfolio, up 23.37% YTD, remaining in second place and NIGEL’s portfolio, up 22.09% YTD, moving into third place.
At Friday's close, 33 of the 39 Contest portfolios were in the black with 25 of the 39 beating the NBI.
Below is the Top Ten list. Also below are the Top 5 & Bottom 5 Stocks ranked by % Gained and % Lost YTD (foreign stock prices are not converted to US$ in these two tables).
Portfolio adjustments: None
Enjoy the Oscar weekend biotechies!
(All corrections, especially adjustments for splits, greatly appreciated.)
Peace & good health,
