It gets worse than that. With all of the subsidies a single person earning $29,000 has a higher disposable income than a person earning $45,000 without subsidies.

If they have a couple of kids. Not so much if they are truly on their own. A single person without kids isn't eligible for most of the subsidies. But if you have kids and make in the 20s or less, then all sorts of subsidies start becoming available.

Edit - I see your example is about a family of three. So your saying the same thing. Talking about a single parent, not a single individual with no dependents.
