You say that opposing background checks is mindless partisanship. I'm not sure where you get that; in the first place, we already have background checks. The problem is with the proposed idea that you can, somehow, require transactions between private parties to involve background checks. It is utterly stupid for Congress to believe it can do that.

What it CAN do is create yet another unenforceable law that will have no effect, whatsoever, on the levels of violence, leading the gullible to think something IS being done when it isn't, and therefore, nothing meaningful WILL get done. It is stupid. We've seen it over and over again, most notably with the war on drugs that has created more drug addicted kids and taken and destroyed more lives than drugs ever would have without the the effort. And at the same time corrupted law enforcement and everyone else connected with it.

Do you think two kids exchanging weapons for drugs on the street are going to give a shit about background checks? Yet, Congress and Obama will have said, "Great. We got something done that will reduce violence".

Bullshit. You got nothing done at all, you spent a bunch of money, and for the next 30 years we will operate as if there is no problem.

How about instead of creating another useless law we try to develop a real solution. Not some kind of Affordable Care Act redux, where people think they're getting something useful and end up with an absolute turkey that makes things worse?

but the NRA' s views (and yours by subscription) engender violence.

Extremist Bullshit.
