In a sweeping ruling, the Tenth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that there is no Second Amendment right to carry a concealed firearm in public. The broad wording of the decision in Peterson v. Martinez creates a far-reaching national precedent against carrying a loaded handgun outside the home. The case began on a narrow point – a challenge by a Washington State man against Colorado’s law to issue CHL permits (“Concealed Handgun License”) only to state residents. But the final ruling held, “In light of our nation’s extensive practice of restricting citizens’ freedom to carry firearms in a concealed manner, we hold that this activity does not fall within the scope of the Second Amendment’s protections.”

The federal court also rejected arguments that Colorado’s CHL law infringed on the the Equal Protection Clause and the Privileges and Immunities Clause.

To bullet-proof the ruling against an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, the Tenth Circuit recounted numerous court rulings and state laws dating back to 1813, and based its ruling on prior U.S. Supreme Court cases.

>> $69 billion budget and actually be completed.

So, can you explain how in hell you expect a project like this to EVER return its investment?

Or do you just not acknowledge that there needs to be some reasonable value received by the taxpayer for a project like this?

Would you have supported the Big Dig if there were going to be 100 drivers a day after it was completed?

John Kerry Makes Up New Country: Kyrzakhstan

Washington Free Beacon Staff February 25, 2013
freebeacon.com

New Secretary of State John Kerry invented a new Central Asian nation last week, referring to diplomatic efforts to secure democratic institutions in “Kyrzakhstan,” which does not exist.

According to The Telegraph, Kerry seemed to confuse the country of Kyrgyzstan with its northern neighbor, Kazakhstan:

The State Department kindly omitted the error in the official transcript of Wednesday’s speech, which Kerry delivered on the eve of his first foreign trip as secretary of state.

Kerry’s flub was all the more awkward, because Kyrgyzstan is a key ally in the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan and a major recipient of US aid, which totalled $41 million (£27 million) in 2011.

Washington has actively promoted democratic development in the country since pro-democracy revolutions topped strongmen in 2005 and 2010, leading to free elections in 2011.

A secretary at the Kyrgyz Embassy in London said nobody was available to comment.
