flaget, You mean WalMart won't be intalling these at every register? Very good point. Welcome to the best thread on SI, for information and discussion. Are you an IDX shareholder? IDX up three, or will it be four, days in a row on avg. and above avg. volumn. With no real "news". The word seems to be getting out. Rob, do you think anyone will be "calling" you?

You are right that fingerprint and facial technologies do not lend themselves to the exact same uses. Facial recognition, for instance, is great for police surveillance (Ratman has a point), not so great for smart card use or, I think, Internet E-Commerce. But you wouldn't need a card for facial recognition. Once your face was in a data base, your presence by the camera is enough to prove ID. Of course, restaurants are not going to have everyone's face in a database. They do overlap on door access, I think, and ATMs (potentially -- similar data base concerns as restaurants, especially with interchangeable bank cards).
