Huge rec for that post and all its rhetorical flair. I think you should put in on FB too before I do it for you, LOL.

The problem with the conservative agenda and Hollywood is that stories about preserving the entrenched status quo are stale and one-dimensional. John Wayne didn't make positive movies about social change, that I recall. The Charles Bronson vigilante stuff is decades out of date. And Stallone and Arnie just get laughed off the screen by reviewers nowadays.

Musically it's about Donnie and Marie and country stars.

And what else?

Yeah, I had to go back and check the original quote to make sure Noonan didn't say starstruck. Just as dumb, though:
I miss Michelle Obama's early years, when she was beautiful, a little awkward, maybe a little ambivalent about her new role, as a sane person would be. Now she is glamorous, a star, and like all stars assumes our fascination.
Ok, you teach English, right? What does "assumes our fascination" mean? I googled the phrase, and the only other instance I found seemed to be in a bad translation from German. I'm guessing she means Michelle assumes we are fascinated by her, or something, but it's pretty weak writing for a professional wordsmith. Then there's the oblique sanity reference. All in all, it makes my heart ever more heavy. A thousand points of something not particularly resembling light.

On a lighter note:

Which inspired an extremely lame parody of a parody by another dubious conservative woman, as noted in theatlantic.com , but that's another story. People with too mcuh time on their hands can try to pick out my comments on that one, too.

I don't deny that if I had the chance to meet Daniel Day Lewis (just think he's the greatest actor of our time) it would be hard for me to stay grounded, but I certainly would try and ask adult questions.

The problem I have with Michelle's actions is not that it isn't very human--it is--but it is outside of her role as the wife of the President of the USA. She has to be Caesar's wife in that aspect because she is Caesar's wife.

Both Republicans and Democrats like movies--I get that, but IMHO it is not Kosher to piggyback politically on that love.

Ultimately generational values are probably at work here for us here and our respective opinions, and as us geezers pass into the sunset your day in the sun will arrive if it hasn't already.

Peace.

Michelle is simply a wonderfully hip, intelligent first lady of pure beauty.
That's a fact not up for discussion.
