Igor, that is some food.

[1] This is important for ADI clealry, as TI used to supply some or similar DSP chip for x2 modem. Remember reading that TI recently shipped 35th millionth chip for x2.

[2] More importantly, AWRE is a xDSL partner of ADI. Since COMS has a large presenc in modm market, when they move to xDSL modem, ADI has a fair shot at COMS business. Which means AWRE will get the ride too.
By the way, it explains why TI bought AMTX recently.

Seem to remember that you have a technical background... A couple of obscure technical memory related questions for you when you've got the time... from the article you posted:

How is memory usually handled as a discrete component in current analog modems? How is memory integrated into a system on a chip as described in the article? Is this flash of some sort? About how much would be needed?

and moving along to adsl... due to the complexity of adsl code, is significantly more memory needed? and will integrating memory into a system on a chip for adsl be a significant challenge?

think I had the memory info all the time

Trying to answer my own ?'s (post 2214): Looks like several processes out there... memory seems like it is DRAM... doesn't sound like it is/will be a huge issue for embedding into a chip for adsl...
was asking the question(s) in the context of adsl modems and their components/count... have started gathering info on next generation chipsets... no one seems to be talking about embedded memory ... either it's already being done (by some) and not being mentioned or .... more likely something to look forward to in following generations.. am i on the right track?...

" Road to embedded DRAM divides --- Mitsubishi, Siemens race to next process..."

...In the 0.35-micron technology (Siemens), building blocks of 256 kbits of DRAM can be combined to form embedded DRAMs of up to 20 Mbits. Each block can be 8, 16, 32 or 64 bits wide, and blocks can be brought together to create an internal bus of up to 512 bits..."
