Yes, and we know that our system is also responsible for over half of the medical innovation in the world. Or was. Not sure it will be five years from now.

Private insurance companies have done a far better job than either Medicare or state Medicaids. We do know that much. Can private insurance be improved? Yes. But it is only because we have private plans subsidizing government plans that we have great health care.
