Grapes of Wrath is a terrific analogy, and I complete agree. I've actually said that to a few people myself. The State attacking and/or beating people who try to change the system; the huge number of applicants per job and wages declining as a consequence; the impotence of those being sucked down. Corporations exploiting their control of gov't to reverse protections for workers -- benefits going by the wayside, war on whistleblowers, treatment of employees as disposable cogs (e.g. see how Amazon treats it's warehouse workers), to be burned out and discarded.
