this is still the very much like the virus argument. i don't think it will happen. and yes, all cars will communicate constantly with each other. but they won't be able to write to any programs. they won't be able to override software, even if they had writing capability.
The issue with constant communications between cars is what if one will give bad data?

On the whole what you propose for the future may happen, but I think it's 20+ yrs away... But I think that as the technology evolves I think that it will realize the humans driving variable and adjust, such that older cars will still be on the road.

How will they communicate with each other? Wirelessly? Assuming that they had the most robust military wireless security available....full AES 256...hell, AES 512, full FIPS 140-2....assuming that it is unhackable. The frequency can still be jammed very easily. Now with none of the vehicles talking with each other, how is the system going to work?

the auto companies will take every precaution against that. they would know that their brand would suffer greatly if that were to occur. i don't think anyone will be able to break into the driving software.

Our cars reflect our personalities. The car and driving are extensions of our personalities. If we are not driving them, we won't care about the brand. Cars will become generic pods. There will be serious resistance to this.

no vehicle without automated driving will be allowed on the road. it will be a danger to all others. and it would be immediately recognized if a human is driving. old vehicle will have to be equipped with the technology or not driven.

Sounds like we are going to have to have government force us to do a lot of stuff to make this happen. Pretty much all vehicles will have to be replaced overnight.

And think of the big brother aspect. Origination and destination points will be recorded....routes will be recorded.

More than anything else, a world where self driven cars do not exist is a nightmare for me. Cars represent a certain amount of freedom.
