Okay, it's true that it's possible to buy devices without GPS built in. I have two such phones in my pocket now. But there are also many devices with GPS if people want GPS. The point was that it's not of particular importance whether a Globalstar or Iridium phone has GPS built in. People who want GPS will probably want Google maps along with it, not to mention all their other position location related apps.

People who are in the hinterlands might like to carry three devices - SPOT, Globalstar modem and their regular Cyberphone with all mod cons including Glonass and GPS, because the consequences of being stuck are very high.
