<<It's interesting how everyone has accepted as gospel that Ascend did
indeed reject a $35 bid. >>
We hav to remember, they recently repriced employee options around 32 If the cash buy out is 35 there is nothing much to cheer about for the employees, and LU cannot do a share deal.

Dwight - But according to joshi, this $35 bid was on the table
a few weeks ago. At that time, ASND was at a higher price
than $25.

If the rumour is true, why so many insiders sold around $25 in November when they can got $35 offer? Can anyone explain this? The logic doesn't sound. Put you in the mgnt position, would you sell at $25 if you had $35 offer. I sure hope it is true, but verify.

>>>If I found out that the CEO of a company whose stock I owned turned down a 40% premium, I would be plenty angry at such a stupid greedy CEO. After all, 40% in the pocket is far better than 13% on a rumor.<<<

There are a great many long-term shareholders who are holding from the 40s and higher. These individuals/firms wouldn't find a 40% premium from today's prices on a buyout at 35, very enticing. To the contrary, they would probably be very angry if the company sold for so little.

Not if there are other suitors! Mory is not stupid, maybe
greedy, but then greed is good. I say take the guy with the
biggest rock and hold out for more.

Like I said, if LU or Nortel want to get into the data networking
game, they've got to move now, or Cisco runs off with voice/data
integration. And if Compaq or Intel are serious about data
networking to the core, then Ascend/Cascade is the best one to take
since they've got a position in the central office as well
as the remote branch.
