I would agree with most of your post.

Apple is now in a stronger position than if they just let the criticism go flying - both with the people who for the most part ignored the usual criticism, the people who cared about the propaganda and the government itself - Apple apologized, which showed that they're not the stereotypical cowboy gunslinging ugly American company who cares nothing about the people or the place that they are in.

In the US, you have people who relish when a "richer" person or company steps on their foot for the payday of a lawsuit - but quite often most people would be satisfied with a quick and sincere apology. When the latter doesn't happen (or of course the thing that occurred is egregious or it's a "payday" person), that's when the lawsuits proliferate.

I'm gonna have to side with Hank here.

Its face saving. I think it was all political in the first place.

Henry,

This "apology" allows AAPL to appear to be "chastened" and now everything that can happen will happen EVEN MORE ENTHUSIASTICALLY.
It may be nonsense to you but it is beyond sense that now the Chinese have a better warranty policy than the rest of the world. They are bullies and they use the fact that they are a huge market to push companies around.

That may be "good business" to kowtow to them but I find it disgusting and showing of lack of integrity.

As to the more enthusiastically, I agree. Now they will go after Apple and anyone else they choose more enthusiastically.

There are no doubt some ethical Chinese citizens but overall they have shown they have no regard or respect for intellectual property and counterfeit everything they can get their hands on. To keep this from being a political rant just look no further than the fake Apple Stores that were created and sanctioned in China.

I don't for an instant believe that the government was looking out for its citizens warranty rights. That's BS.
