No kidding. Austerity has always led to a decline in economic activity. And it is pretty easy to understand why. That is unless you don't have the slightest clue as to how economies operate...

Ted, no one in Europe decided, "Hey, let's impose austerity" just for the heck of it. They're imposing it because the economic recession has depleted the funds of their socialist state.

People can argue whether austerity just makes things worse or not, but the fundamental problem isn't spending vs. austerity. The fundamental problem is how big government hampers fiscal flexibility.

That is why austerity is the result and not the cause of Europe's problems.
