<< This buyout by Lucent is old news or old rumor >>

Andreas,

If the buyout was in the cards for quite a while, then wat was a buyout price at the time? I am sure LU could not offer $35 for ASND back then when it was much higher.

In some of your messages you asked what is the rational for $35 price for the co with current year earning of $1.05 and projected at least $1.15 for the next one. Well if there are bidders willing to pay at least $35 - $40 that would be at least one reason. If the company is confident enough that it is worth more this would be another one. If there sales grouth figures will be in 30% range for the 1998 even with $1.15 earning the p/e of 50 is not out of the question (CSCO for instance), this would be the third one.
