I don't think a gold policy statement is forthcoming until after late April/early May when the European Central Bank will be announcing its stand on gold.

Please note that relevant western powers that be are very determined to succeed in making EMU fly. To them there are important advantages in achieving union, e.g., 1. great savings in time and money in using a single currency; 2. maintenance of price stability. Also, it is important for them to integrate their economy to be better prepared to face a new and mightier China in the next century.
