5/3/13 Contest Update While the market was breaking records today, my wife and I were at San Francisco’s MOMA watching Christiam Marclay’s, “The Clock.” The film is captivating, making you hyperaware of how much can happen (or not happen) in a single minute of time. On Wall Street these days, it’s of course milliseconds not minutes that count. But as always in bull markets, investors have forgotten the past and believe this time is different. Despite it being a good week for stocks, Contest portfolios had a rough go. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 21.02% YTD (vs. up 25.29% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 28.88% (vs. up 26.25% YTD a week ago) and the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 11.89% YTD (vs. up 8.60% YTD a week ago). RKRW’s portfolio, up 57.70% YTD, held on to the Contest lead, with BLADE’s portfolio, up 53.31% YTD, and FILO’s portfolio, up 46.09% YTD, remaining in second and third place. At Friday's close, 37 of the 39 Contest portfolios were still in the black with just 11 of the 39 beating the NBI. Below is the Top Ten list.
