IOW, Nixon voters 45 years later, still convinced they are the Silent Majority and all those "radicals" out there can be put back in their place.

It's sad to see people retreat into that kind of fantasy instead of enjoying the modern world.

Even Jennifer Rubin had a long op-ed on Sunday decrying the Republican Party welded to the Reagan icon era and resisting anything that looks like change. She really cut her ties to the Romney wing big-time.

Of course, she may change again in a month or a year, not the brightest spark around.

I think basically, right wingers are just ignorant. I do agree mixed in with them are the sociopaths, criminals and mentally ill. And also the imprinted i.e. early indoctrination which I have never really understood, just noticed.

We dems weed those folks out pretty well, so the Republican party is their logical home, and we liberals totally weed them out.

So I treat them like I treated my high school students. They just don't understand liberal thought or what we are about. They don't understand complex problems. It takes a long long time and lots of effort to understand the most abstract of problems. It is the amount of effort we midjudge, IMO.

It took the Greeks 500 years to get from the jungle to the edge of civilization, but even they never got there e.g. slavery. We finished the job.

Since they are cardboard cut-outs, who lack actual thinking power, being in only two dimensions, they are like a piece of paper with all their cliches and talking points written, so it's easy for them to keep their cliches and slogans in line, trotting out another slogan to do their thinking for them, as required for the situation: <I know you want to think they're stupid, and I call them morons myself, but the wing nuts aren't all truly mentally deficient. They just want some really weird alternate world- where Reagan is always president (trickling on the poor), all white men have jobs and the brown people are where they should be (bussing tables, out in the fields, washing dishes, minding the children of white people- the 50's, in other words), women are nurses or teachers or home with the kids (again, the 50's), everyone has a gun, and carries it everywhere (probably to keep those brown folks in line), and of course no poor people get benefits- because we don't want the brown folks getting any more shiftless and lazy then they already are, since they don't have the correct anglo saxon type of backbone, since the wing nuts believe the brown folks are all on welfare, getting free phones from Obama, and voting in "stupid" ways (because they are the free shit army- yeah- it's like that. Hard to believe from a party with a whole shit load of free shit army old folks sucking the life out of our country with their medical demands and SS entitlements)

Now it requires a lot of imagination and creativity to believe crap like that, so they've obviously got some mental horsepower, it's just bent and twisted.

Incidentally, what is it about American culture that there's such a scatological emphasis these days, with violent metaphors to back up the excrement?

I admit to being amused by one such reference: The Brown Bottom. But that was an English not American expression and genteel in form. afuturefairforall.org It's not just the brown ones to keep down, it's the black ones too. Incidentally, how did they trick Condoleezza into being a token [female at that] and they have kept Thomas Sowell in thrall to their cardboard play book too? They are obviously quite cunning. They even had Colin Powell talking WMDs.
