If I buy some shares in CSCO between the date of record and the payment date, will I still get the extra shares, or will I see my investment devalued by 1/2? I am pretty sure what the answer is, but I just want to hear someone else say it as well.

Yes you will. I've heard that the "Date of Record" is some accounting formality.

But call your broker for confirmation if it makes you feel better, that's what you pay him for.

It's my understanding that if you didn't own on 'date of record', you'd take a hit when the price breaks for the 3/2 split on 12/16. There may be other factors that come into play in justifying purchases between date of record and split date. You'd have to check with your broker to verify specifically for your situation.

Buying at or around split date. You'll get the proper number of shares you pay for. If you pay 90 you'll get 1.5, if you pay 60 you'll get one. What will NOT happen, is that your position will be discounted by the split. HOWEVER, it may take a few days for your broker to get things accounted for properly. PW.
