I doubt that we disagree at all really.

It's just that the whole N. Korea "defector" thing is so ephemeral that you can't really get any hard data on it because there ISN'T any.

There isn't really any way to confirm anything.

And even if the guy's story is totally true I don't think it makes much difference. If they had a thriving "underground market" one day and they decided to END it the next they could do it and nobody there could do anything about it.

The military is EVERYTHING there and as long as they can continue to live the life they are accustomed to I don't see any chance of change.
