I would never dream of questioning anyone's Christianity. But it consistently puzzles me how progressive Christians can focus so strongly on 'social justice' and environmentalism, to the point where both crusades cause them to embrace a revisionist view of the scriptures.

Revising scripture requires a belief that God's word (if that is indeed what a Christian believes scripture to be) is not timeless, but that there are humans who are fully capable of adjusting and interpreting His words to coincide with their own beliefs as to what is important at any particular time in history.

As one of God's most important gifts to man Christ valued man's free will. We were gifted, by Him, with the ability to make our own choices (and suffer the consequences of those choices) -- which is the foundational basis of the Founders' concept of God-given individual liberty (we were endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights ... ).

Yet progressivism, and its enormous government-mandated restrictions ... in the name of 'social justice' and 'the environment', particularly ... represents the antithesis of respect for our God-given ability to enjoy free will.

So it would appear that, considering the generally accepted definition of 'Christian', and the generally accepted definition of 'progressive', the two terms seem somehow to be mutually exclusive.
