ORBCOMM is a division of Orbital Sciences that has built a low earth orbit satellite communication system with limited bandwidth. By not being as ambitious as other ventures such as Iridium, Globalstar, etc. the Orbcomm system will be ready before the other systems. Once its satellites are all in place, Orbcomm will market paging, phone(??), and location reporting services to customers. An alternate to cellular providers. Actually similar to what AMSC (SKYC) is already providing at a pretty steep price. In some ways Orbital's role is similar to Motorola's in Iridium. Orbital builts the satellites, launches them (Motorola does not do that), builds links of satellite system with land and wireless systems, sells capacity to other providers and to the consumer market, and sells the handsets (with built-in GPS) to the end-users. As vertically integrated as one can get in this business.

Check out the Orbital Sciences web-site.
