Jim, re: Compaq/Intel

Yes, I read Paul's article and also remember when Compaq and Intel had their divorce. But when Compaq returned to the fold, they seemed to have a better relationship, which now SEEMS to be getting worse.

I think the Intel announcement about the software for viewing HDTV on PC's and TV's is VERY significant. It must have caused some debate within Intel about if they should go against all the industry heavy weights with a different standard, but it sounds like this is the best solution for the consumer, and also the shortest path to implementation. This industry has huge potential, it may ultimatly replace all existing TV's and home PC's, and Intel for now has positioned itself right in the middle of it. Lots more can happen before the broadcasts start a year from now, and more as the new industry matures, Intel will have to be ahead of the curve throughout to get a piece of this big pie. My guess is the reorganization had everything to do with addressing this potential.
