If you want to see the shining star and get some rec's in your inbox, write something wonderful!wonderful!

In my opinion, post recommendation systems always devolve into a bogus "popularity" contest. Same goes for person marks. As a general rule, I ignore both as meaningless noise.

But I realize others may find some kind of value in them. It's easy enough to ignore the feature but it doesn't enhance the site at all for me.

That assumes that a recommendation is an indicator that there's something wonderful in the post being recommended. That's not been typical on SI so far. It's usually an indicator of how large the sides are in the controversy du jour.

If one wants to garner recommendations, and I don't know why anyone would, the best way is to say something mindlessly provocative on a busy thead.
