you always sell SPYder's short...this will quickly and efficiently neutralize a bear market. No one is immunized in any stock or any sector. The lesson, that seems to be lost, is simple: you don't have to ride out a bear market, and just wait out the recovery. You pre-plan your actions if and when stock start a downturn.

I didn't say that I am immune from a bear market! I am invested (about 25%) in international stocks via mutual funds, plus in a few domestic stocks that I picked up at reasonably good valuations -- MO, MCD, PBY, etc. I also invest in the mechanical Dow Dogs strategy (the BTD5 version). About 40% is in cash and I am waiting for stocks like GCI, FRE/FNM, NKE, JNJ to hit a trough, which will happen when the market goes into a tailspin sometime. And that's gonna happen sooner or later, for sure!
