THC, any idea what type of lasers were Cymer, Komatsu and Coherent(Lambda) exhibiting - Kr or Ar (248 or 193nm)? Also, did they have any literature/specs on their products?

Your points on marketing are well taken.

Not to argue with you, but just to put things in proper perspective, your source at Nikon had essentially said that 1) CYMER does not have a natural monopoly on the excimer laser market, and 2) it appeared to be spread thin trying to prove in a complex product in simultaneous pilot installations. Nothing new or surprising here - last 10Q says as much. I definitely disagree that CYMER management is trying to gloss over the potential problems or dismiss the competition - just look at the 10Q risk section, or read the CC transcripts.

The important question is whether CYMER has solved some of the last quarter problems and whether the overall situation is improving or deteriorating. We know that several design glitches had been fixed, that they've allocated more money for customer service, etc. I tend to think that these are positive indicators, but that's just an opinion.

I hope you'll be able to talk to your new source in a few months to see if Nikon's customers are still complaining about Cymer.

To put a positive spin on your conversation, looks like even smaller companies are testing new steppers. Obviously, the transition to .25 is accelerating, which is good for CYMER as a leading 248nm laser provider.

Regards, Y.
