Bannan, PC Week Online 12.05.97 6:00 pm ET Data General Corp.'s Clariion business unit, Bull and Emulex Corp. next week will demonstrate the first Fibre Channel-based disaster recovery system for open AIX environments at Oracle Corp.'s OpenWorld/Oracle Expo in Paris. The system is designed to let users secure data by placing storage up to 10 kilometers away from servers. It also avoids latency problems by ensuring transfer rates up to 100M bps, officials said. The demonstration will feature a combination of two Bull Escala servers running an Oracle Corp. database, Emulex's LightPulse PCI adapters and a Clariion FC3000 Fibre Channel RAID storage subsystem. "This announcement is a major step for the storage industry," said Larry Hemmerich, vice president and general manager of Clariion, based in Westboro, Mass. "The use of these products will allow users maximum flexibility for disaster recovery configuration, design and management in open AIX environments." In other Clariion news, Microsoft Corp. next week will award the company's SCSI Series 3000 RAID disk array the Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 Compatibility logo. Eleleth, I certainly seem to have struck a nerve with the shorts and nay-sayers. <g> I understand completely why you came here with ar's post on the web Motley Fool, and I agree that finding out whether or not it was true was important. As much as I would like to keep this thread open and clean, it has become increasingly difficult due to a number of factors. Now that this thread is widely viewed as being better than MF, we get a lot of the AOL crowd who either don't read the terms of use at the bottom of each page, or don't follow them anyway. (Witness some of the recent posts by JC.) The same factors that ruined the ANCR thread on AOL are at work here, and I simply don't have the time to keep things civil and eliminate the profanity all by myself. I would also like everyone to consider the relative contributions of the longs and shorts on this thread. My opinion is that the ANCR longs contribute FAR MORE information than everyone else, and I for one am tired of doing their research. I'd like to see the shorts and nay-sayers be surprised one morning by a huge gap UP! I'm not going to get that if I share information that tips them off to potential contracts, and gives them advance warning of when to cover. Remember, ANCR still has over 500,000 shares short. I'd like those shares to get bought back at MUCH higher prices. <g> Look at the criticism we got over what many of us thought about insider buying. I thought it was pretty clear during the conference call that SOMETHING was going to happen along those lines, but others listened to the conference call, and didn't get that impression. Now, the reaction seems to be that it was just a lucky guess. Craig
