I've felt that MSFT has the best engineers in the world. I never got that sense from my limited examination of Solaris.

Are you serious?

Best engineers at fixing kludgey architecture. Who do you work for?

Let me tell you the types that work for MS. This is from 25 years of observing.

These are the geeks of all geeks. Namely the space geek, like that Nathan character. Then you have the Paul Allen geek. Who knows what that type are into. They're middle name is arrogance. You can't tell these creeps anything because that know it all.

These are the type you never see in college CS classes but that's all their major (can't get into engineering school). You never see them during the day but at 12 midnight they arise to haunt the halls of the Computer Science building. They usually have a skinny, geeky Bill G. and a Rosanna Danna type following them around laughing at their stupid jokes.

They all have a beard and wear sandels.

ahahah--we're cool, man.I mean hard core as in wizards not afraid of the technology who see alternatives to bills way and have the independence of thought to express themselves well. There must be other sites that are similar to SI --but more hard core in their committment.i'llagree communicator has the physique of that twinkee eater andreessen.navigator 4 as a standalone is nice, though, and unlike the IE,comes with no strings attached.

"NT is selling strongly and eating away at the Sun monopoly"

how do you define a monopoly? Sun has a percentage of the Unix server marketplace at less than 20% - IBM, HP, DEC, SGI, DG and a 100 others provide the rest. Anyone can get the source for Unix at no charge - they can then distribute any extensions they want - thats how Sun got started - its called open systems and the guys from Stanford who started Sun didnt have the money to buy VMS or MVS or some proprietary code (like NT today). It was a good idea then and its a good idea now since Unix is much better than NT..yeah, yeah..bill will get it right, bill will spend his billions...its just around the corner...the next upgrade...when is NT 5.0 coming out - has it been delayed again?

I guess if you sling the world monopoly around it begins to lose its meaning....hmm..do you work for Microsoft?
