We all fear things. You, for example, fear republicans. The question about fear is always- is it rational? I have absolutely no fears about my rationality. We have guns- locked up, sure, but I'd not want them to fall into the wrong hands and I'd like to make as sure I can that that never happens. And a really determined burglar could probably pry the safe from the wall and carry it out with accomplices. I also have young adult children living at home, at odd hours, and I'd not want them confronted by a burglar. The guys working our area obviously do not want to confront people, but if forced in to a confrontation, by finding someone was home, I've no doubt they could be violent. You may have no one you care about living with you, and nothing worth stealing. And you may be able to move because you have no one who depends on you. I don't have that level of autonomy. I have a job that I love in this community, and kids who depend on me to be here. Your situation makes it easier to be cavalier about crime- if you actually are as cavalier as you say you are- in which case I very much hope you don't own a gun. But I am not in your situation, and I choose to be careful. I've been "lucky" over my lifetime, in that the crimes I've experienced had been minimal- although the car we had stolen when we were in college presented challenges for us until it was recovered by the police. Generally, I try to ignore your incredible level of judginess. Usually, it's conservatives who are judgy (just kidding). What I find is that people at the ends of the spectrum are pretty equally intolerant. So whether conservative our liberal, once you get out towards the edge, the only people you will really get along with are people exactly like you.
