Brian, welcome to the WFR thread.

This year is bad for two main reasons, the first is due to pricing pressures, the dram maker ( abig chunk of the wafers users) have suffered price decline of more than 60% over the last 122 months and they pressured their suppliers to lower their costs as well. Due to the ample supply of wafers, pricing pressures have been in place.

The second reason is that WFR has been bringing on line a number of facilities, eating the costs of start up but not having these facilities at full production yet.

Better 1998, in my opinion (and much better 1999) will be due to soaking of excess capacity and bringing into full production a number of joint ventures as well as US and other expansions.

None of the competitors are on US exchanges, as far as I know.

Brian, I asked the same questions. After being with WFR for approximately 12 months and losing $13,000 I sold some of my gains against my losses for a zero gain. Then, IMO, I moved into AMAT which has a greater potential since it is at the heart of the digital revolution. Hope this provides assistance to you.

Regards,
