In a failing sector or failing business model I agree on debt situations. However in the case of ABX they can slash costs, stop production on high cost mines, defer debt and wait for the gold prices to turn around. 2-3 years is all they'll need at most. FED and China are bluffing. Money cannot stop flowing. Gold business is still a great business LT. This is not the environment they want to sell African Barrick, but if need be they could probably get something for it. Again they have options. Only need to defer a portion of their near term debt. These prices are beyond silly.

I would need to look at their bonds and when their debt matures to get a better handle on the situation. Will be buying others before ABX just using as an example.

SPX benefiting from window dressing today, miners/gold the reverse.

How safe are the dividends from PAA and ABX? I'm looking at FR as well. Any thoughts?

LEH had choices and refused to do so. These firms have choices as well. The question is will they or are they able to pull a wabbit out of the hat as LVS did.

Yet I agree the solutions you see would not be good for the avg investor. The investor that understand would use the moment to quick react as some did with BSC and did well as others got clobbered.

It's not that knowledge is power but the PROPER USE OF KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.. And I don't take credit for that last statement. Someone wiser than me said it.
