Gold miners peaked in March 2008, and bottomed in October 2008, just 7 months later. After the final low, it took 2 years for GDX to get back to the 2008 highs. That's a ratio of about 4-to-1, not a V-shaped recovery. Declines (in this and most other industries) tend to be quicker and more chaotic than advances.
