We don't know, but not knowing that shouldn't blind us to the signs of intelligence all around us. Suppose life on earth disappeared and aliens entered our solar system and found the space station circling our planet. Should they assume it's an artifact of nature that simply looks designed? I'd say any such aliens that proposed the space station was an artifact of nature would be basing that on faith, not on evidence. jump from the natural world that can be observed to the supernatural where one must have faith? If you assert things about the natural world that aren't sensible, you're basing that on faith. No evidence for the supernatural. I say if you see things that can't come from nature, the only rational alternative is the supernatural.
