I added some EPA stats for you.

The first girl to ever tell me I was cute was an undoubtedly blind black girl at a track meet at the now killed off Ravenswood High, our arch rival. IIRC, things got so bad at one point that fans were banned from a few basketball games cuz of fights.

Ravenswood High School

Created in 1958, Ravenswood High School served the East Palo Alto area of San Mateo County California until its closure in 1976. During its lifetime, East Palo Alto was the low income area in the shadow of its more affluent neighbors Menlo Park, Atherton and Palo Alto. The city of Palo Alto, while adjacent and sharing the same zip code is a completely different city in a different county ( Santa Clara County). Ravenswood was part of the Sequoia Union High School District which serves the southern San Mateo County cities of Belmont, Redwood City, San Carlos, and Woodside.
During the early 1960s, the enrollment in the school increased from initially less than 800 to over 1,200 students. With white flight, 60 percent of the student population was African American. The next decade continued this trend. Almost a decade after Brown v. Board of Education decision, the conditions at the school drew the attention of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) [1]. In the early 1970s, the school board instituted a district wide bussing program to increase the diversity of all its high schools. This was successful for a few years, but by the mid-70's volunteer students wishing to attend Ravenswood became harder to find. Enrollment declined and facing the financial burden of keeping the school alive, Ravenswood was closed in 1976. The location was demolished in 1995 to make room for the Gateway 101 Shopping Center. ....... percentage of E. Palo Altoans who were on welfare prior to the private investment as opposed to after that for Chinu's example to be valid.

Absolutely not. Instead look at the crime rate, the construction of new housing and condominium complexes. the growth of quality in the E. Palo Alto school district etc. etc. That is the yardstick, at least for those who invested because investor's always want to know if their current investment has any returns and what is the potential for future ROI.

We say that we need to be "App store" thinkers where we identify gaps for improvement and go ahead and improve instead of saying look how we have improved by looking at what we were yesterday. No my friend, look at what we can be tomorrow.

Palo Alto has always been a rich area. The rich can afford to educate their kids, and keep things nice, so the rich areas stay pretty nice.

It is the ghettos one has to address.

Half the problem, IMO, is over population, and the other half, the stupid ass Republicans and their stupid ass ideas.

I attribute none of the ghettos problems to the people in the ghettos.

I was thinking of Los altos not Palo alto.

Sorry, but my opinion on ghettos stands.

The reason we have ghettos is because our social engineering as been controlled by dumb ass right wingers.

Had the dems been in control the last 50 years this country would be much much more prosperous and civilized.
