Jay,

>>>>The 15' monitor is $500. The P-200 MMX is 1499, the P-233 MMX is 1699 and the PII-233 is 2199. <<<

$2,199 for a 233 Pentium II is awfully high. If you are not hung up on "name brands" you can get a 266 PII including a 17" monitor, 32meg ram, 4gig HD, 56k modem CD ROM, sound, software, etc for the same price.

>>>> OTOH if I forgo a PII - I'll probably have to get her one in 18 months or so. So the eternal problem shows up as usual - buy a marginal system now for a few bucks saving and upgrade later - or buy something that you will be happy with for quite some time.<<<

OTOH, at the current rate of advancement you will only be "happy" with the PII you buy now for about six months longer than you would be with a 200MMX.
