8/9/13 Contest Update The major “Bio” news story this week was Biogenesis. Although it appears the juice doled out by the Florida clinic boosted baseball player performance, to my knowledge no one has linked any of this year’s biotech stock home runs to steroids. At Friday’s close, the Contest median was up 41.43% YTD (vs. up 44.09% YTD a week ago), while the Nasdaq Biotech Index was up 42.58% (vs. up 46.62% YTD a week ago) and the Nasdaq Composite Index was up 21.22% YTD (vs. up 22.19% YTD a week ago). The race for the Contest lead tightened up quite a bit this week. BLADE’s portfolio, up 99.78% YTD, did hold on to first place, but second place RKRW’s portfolio, up 98.02% YTD, is merely the hair on a GENT’s moustache behind. FILO’s portfolio, up 90.78% YTD, remains in third place. However, the really, really astonishing surprise this week is, of course, the debut of Bulba’s portfolio in the Top Ten! At Friday's close, all 39 Contest portfolios continued in the black with 19 of the 39 now beating the NBI. Below is the Top Ten list.
