Hi Kevin,

Hope you're feeling better.

I was at the Micron showroom yesterday and most of their $2000+ packages have S3 chips featured. Next time over there I'll ask the sales people. They're pretty hip on this compared to Best Buy where the sales guy said he preferred Pringles.

Onward,

George

fiberman, Staying up so late at night (1:29 a.m. EST) and posting is making you delirious. Short ATI? NO WAY !. Not now. Not for a long time. Yes, TDFX is doing well (deservedly) and TDDDF is recovering some lost ground (because they are solid), but ATI is doing quite well too, tyvm. Look at the awards list on the opening screen of the ATI web site (http://www.atitech.ca). I'm now staring at a mug I stole from Comdex that stated ATI shipped a million graphics boards in the month of October and that the company was the first to ship one million AGP chips. These numbers will be reflected in the quarterly results that will be issued sometime in January. As a cyberbud concerned for your well being, fiberman, I implore you not to short ATI. You'll be massacred. (My opinion only, not ATI's. I could be way off, but the publically available info would suggest ATI is swimming in revenue.)

Good luck and lay off the caffeine for a while. That's an order soldier.

Fiberman,
I haven't checked lately with the sales types(order takers) at the local computer retailers, but the tech types that I know that are building boxes for end users, like SIII. They say they realize the older virge's are getting out-benchmarked, but they are still sold on them and unanimously and eagerly awaiting SIII's next product. 'Course, local box-builders account for what... 5-10% of what Radio Shack, Sears, or the Good Guys sell?

"Onward"* (to quote) and upward.

*So, how do I show the symbol "Registered Trademark of George W. Bigelow"?

While you may well be correct that shorting ATI is a good idea (just as it was for Siii and CRUS) I still think they are currently selling a lot of product. I keep seeing ads with the words ATI Rage II (some for Nvidia as well). An interesting thing is that often ads merely mention that there is a graphics card without mentioning manufacturer. Being the optimist I am hoping at least some of those are Siii:)

It ain't over 'til it's over.
