Notice that folks have mentioned that we genuinely need to help out folks in need. And this nation has the ability to do that. Congresswoman Joe Lofgren is a shining example of the success of our social support system. She was a welfare mother, who went on welfare, raised her kids very honorably and is now a Congresswoman.

Living here in California, I see corporate welfare very clearly. It concerns illegal immigration. The rich farmers in San Joaqin valley (who by some strange chance happen to be Republicans) are opposing immigration reforms since it will cut out their source of cheap labor (below minimum wages). Besides cheap labor, they also pocket the taxes that would be due to us which the worker, if legalized would be required to pay. And they do not have to pay for the medical expenses of these laborers either. Thew worker cannot sue due to exposure to pesticides etc. So the rich farmers have everything going for them if these workers remain illegal. So they start stalling immigration reforms by pointing to building a wall.

Don't they realize that they can be that wall by refusing to hire illegals and hire Americans instead?

How screwed up they can be by suggesting that we cut off the importation of engineers and software programmers though the H1B visa process, but keep the illegal immigrants coming across the border?

...and yet we have folks crusading on this board about the travesty of providing subsistence support to people at the very bottom of the food chain

We provide enough in unearned payouts to the billionaires to cover the basic needs of most of the starving children in this country, but they are uninterested in that inequity

Republican thinking what a hoot....

You put in no exceptions and you will hurt a lot of needy people.

In this country we say: we would rather 9 guilty men go free than convict one innocent person.

It should be the same with welfare, we would rather fund 9 undeserving people than allow one truly deserving needy person starve to death or go hungry----like every child in the country.

<, IMHO no one should get any handout outside of a very short term emergency gap assistance like unemployment unless you are under 18, 65 and over or disabled. NO EXCEPTIONS..
