I never said money alone. I said you need to educate the kids of the poor early and hard with schools and educators that are the equivalent of the best schools found in the suburbs and of the best private schools. And we need to raise pay so that more male teachers enter the profession.

It won't succeed if the kids have to go back and live in "projects" after school with a single non-working parent. That is why it is better to change the culture the child grows up in first--a culture that values education and work. The way to do that is to end welfare going forward so that someone in the family will have to have a job and transmit work values to the kids. At that point great schools will be of benefit. Before that culture change takes place it is just money wasted.
