I have said similarly in past posts but it seems to elude them. They keep rehashing welfare, unwed mothers and Blacks being on welfare, biases held in some places. These are outmoded views but you can't change some elderly folks who grew up with these thoughts. I wouln't be surprised if these folks still believe that intelligence discriminates races and resides in the white race only.

I am suggesting that we improve the quality of inner city schools so that they are the equivalent of the schools found in affluent communities.......something similar to what was done with Garfield High, a black high school in a predominately black neighborhood of Seat

This is certainly encouraging, but since our debate is about welfare and its kids chances of success if they are raised by a single parent on it, what we would need to know here for your example to have validity for this debate is this:

How many kids that are going to this school are being raised by a single parent on welfare, and how many of these kids are able to graduate from this HS and either get a job, go on to college, or go into the military?

Do you agree that that information would be useful to have and, if so, do you know where we could get it on the internet?
