recognizes that some folks will flounder in a dog eat dog world... What I find hugely ironic is that much of fundamentalist America viscerally hates biological "Darwinism" (i.e. evolution) but they cherish economic "Darwinism" (i.e. lassie fair economics). The flip side is also ironic, in that liberals accept biological evolution, but largely seek to eliminate its effects within our species. Its not actually a laughing matter. I much prefer a kinder, gentler world, but I also acknowledge that all the beauty I see in the ecosystem is the result of a very long history of pain. That is a much more interesting philosophical question than most the questions which philosophers occupy themselves with...
