>> and you just don't understand FEMA's role in a disaster.

My recollection from August, 2005 is that YOU believed FEMA was a "first responder" and that I showed you specifically where that was not FEMA's role. Is that still your position (even though I already corrected you at the time?)

>> Suffice to say FEMA screwed up every which way during Katrina. Hell the president was in San Diego playing his banjo and raising money for his favorite charity......

And Blanco and Nagin were literally hiding out in the midst of their nervous breakdowns. Also, if you remember how things unfolded, the day after the hurricane (when Bush was in CA) the news media were reporting that NOLA had "dodged a bullet". It was only some hours after the levee breaks that anyone recognized the problem.

I'm not sure what it has to do with anything, though. It isn't like the president sits around after a hurricane waiting to see if there will be an ensuing flood.

>> Americans were furious.

Americans were furious because they were outraged at the suffering that was caused by the state and local incompetence, and wanted someone to blame. Like you, most Americans think FEMA can just solve all the problems created by state and local officials. It just doesn't work that way. Never has, never will.

"Even after the levees broke, the best Bush could do was have AF one dip a wing so he could take a gander at the city as he flew back to DC."

Bush wasn't going to go down amid the drowning negroes.
