Oracale missed earnings today. Cited soft Asia demand.

Novell just recently dumped a huge position in Corel. As you may rememeber, Novell bought Wordperfect and at an expensive price and then sold to Corel at huge loss. As a result of the sale, Novell ending up holding stock in Corel. Corel has had miserable struggles with its Java stragegy. I'm not sure about the whether they would entertain buying Applix after their experience with Corel.

Frankly, buying an another office products company would likely meet with extreme opposition regardless of the pedigree of the company in question. Wordperfect is still haunting Novell and I just don't see them getting into the application market.
